Welp…maybe not so fast!
About a week ago social media exploded as ‘Empire’ star Taraji P. Henson claims her 20 yr. old son, Marcell Johnson, was racially profiled at The University of Southern California where he attended. During an interview with Uptown Magazine, she claims her son was racially profiled and stopped for having his hands in his pockets.
The actress stated, “I’m not paying $50K so I can’t sleep at night wondering is this the night my son is getting racially profiled on campus.”
It was said that Henson had since removed him and enrolled him into Howard University. Turns out after further investigation and a dash cam video of the incident that surfaced, her claims of racial profile was all wrong.
Let’s back up a little now!
In October, Taraji’s son was stopped for ‘failing to yield to a pedestrian at a cross walk’ in Glendale California. During the stop a Glendale police officer say he found marijuana, honey oil (concentrated marijuana), a marijuana grinder and a knife in the car. Though Johnson was not driving impaired, he was cited for possession of majiraua.
Since then, Taraji has publicly apologized on Instagram to the officer and Glendale Police Dept. saying:
“I would like to publicly apologize to the officer and the Glendale Police Department. A mother’s job is not easy and neither is a police officer’s. Sometimes as human WE over react without gathering all of the facts. As a mother in this case I over reacted and for that I apologize. Thank you to that officer for being kind to my son.”
